Iranian border guards clash with drug traffickers in Saravan

TEHRAN, May 28 (MNA) – Law Enforcement Command of the Islamic Republic of Iran said in a statement that the border guards clashed with drug traffickers in Saravan on the border with Pakistan, seizing huge shipment of illicit drugs.

"Border guards of Sistan and Baluchistan province had been informed about the due arrival of a heavy shipment of narcotics from the border area," the Iranian Law Enforcement Command (Police) said in statement on Tuesday.  

The statement also said that the drug traffickers opened fire at border guards who were confronted by the Iranian border guards.

The statement further said that the drug traffickers had to escape to the other side of the border after the Iranian police confronted them, leaving behind their shipment of drugs. 

"During this operation, as many as 408 kilograms of drugs including 158 kg of opium and 250 kg of hashish were seized," from the traffickers," the command's statement further read.
